From her laboratory, her gaze often returned to the same galaxy. In that distant light, her thoughts reached out to her loved one, transforming the observation into an intimate presence. For her fortieth birthday, that sky became substance: the sapphire holds the deep blue of the core, while the diamonds trace luminous trajectories like moving stars. Blue Galaxy thus unites distance and closeness, research and affection, cosmic time and shared time.
Blue Galaxy belongs to my archive of completed works and stems from a precise relationship between observation, circumstance and personal memory. It is not a shape to be replicated: every new project is redesigned taking into account history, the proportions of the hand, gemstones, materials, intended use and symbolic intensity.
The project stems from an astrophysicist's desire to celebrate his partner's fortieth birthday through a galaxy he often observes from his laboratory, thinking of her. The digital photograph provided during the first meeting guided the search for hues and movement.
I translated that reference without reproducing it literally, entrusting the deep blue to the sapphire and the widespread presence of the stars to the diamonds.
I developed the structure through 3D modelling and prototyping, verifying the relationship between the sapphire, light paths, height and overall proportions. After the lost-wax casting of the 18-carat white gold, the central gemstone was prong-set and the diamonds pavé-set.
Polishing distinguishes the metal profiles from the luminous surfaces, while quality control verifies stability, finishes and consistency between design and execution.
Every review reflects a real commission: the initial consultation, the listening process, the definition of the project, the anticipation and the moment the finished piece becomes part of the client’s life.
