Laguna takes shape from the meeting of two apparently opposing forces: the heat rising from the earth and the milky calm of the water that embraces it. The central blue gem holds the depth of that landscape, while the diamonds mark bright flashes like vapour, reflections and mineral deposits.
The piece of jewellery recounts a birthday, a shared adventure that does not stop at the memory of the place, but retains the sense of immersion, transformation and regained peace found in the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland's most visited geothermal tourist areas. The spa is located on the Reykjanes peninsula, near Grindavík, about 39 km from the capital Reykjavík.
Laguna belongs to my archive of completed works and tells the story of a project born from a place, an inner image and a precise dialogue with the client. Each new ring is redesigned taking into account the proportions of the hand, the available gems, the structure, the intended use and the intensity of the narrative it is to hold.
The project started as a birthday gift and from the desire to preserve the memory of a shared adventure at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland within a piece of jewellery. I interpreted that place without reproducing it literally: the intense blue of the central stone evokes the geothermal water, while the diamonds introduce bright flashes, akin to the light and steam over the mineral landscape.
Consultation with the client also guided the verification of heights, proportions and presence on the hand.
I developed the design through 3D modelling and prototyping, so as to precisely verify the relationship between the central gemstone, the diamonds and the shank opening. Following the lost-wax casting of the 18-carat white gold, the natural blue zircon and natural diamonds were set using flush and pavé settings.
The final polishing makes the surfaces sharper and quality control concludes the work by checking stability, continuity and wearability.
Every review reflects a real commission: the initial consultation, the listening process, the definition of the project, the anticipation and the moment the finished piece becomes part of the client’s life.
