Custom yellow gold open family pendant with an illustration kept inside

The family

An 18-carat yellow gold locket, created to hold a private family trace

The creation

The custom yellow gold pendant “La famiglia” features a round, opening structure, designed to safeguard a private memento. The front alternates between solid and pierced surfaces, while the interior introduces a second, more intimate layer of meaning. The hinge, edge and volume are integrated into a compact profile; once worn, the locket maintains a defined and regular presence, with a balanced ratio between surface area, thickness and the movement of the chain.

What matters can find a form to be treasured

A significant presence can become the starting point for a new pendant, designed around what you wish to keep close to you.

The initial meeting is for understanding the meaning to be translated, the design direction and the feasibility, without requiring an immediate decision.

Narrative jewel

A childhood drawing can hold much more than its graphic simplicity when it belongs to a family’s history. In this pendant, the image of the little child remains kept inside and only appears when the locket opens: an action that separates what is shown from what is preserved. For a fortieth birthday, the gift thus takes on a private dimension, linking the occasion to a tangible family trace without turning it into a generic symbol.

The family belongs to my archive of created pieces and documents a journey born from specific references and needs. Each new piece of jewellery is redesigned around the person, proportions, materials, use and meaning it must hold.

From inspiration to design

Inspiration

The project was created for the client's wife's fortieth birthday and stems from the desire to create a memory holder linked to the family. Inside, I faithfully reproduced a drawing made by the daughter depicting the family, turning it into the most private core of the pendant. The formal direction was also developed starting from references chosen from my Creations gallery, including “Bambolina”, then reworked to build a solution consistent with this request.

Materials and finishes

I developed the medallion using 3D modelling and prototyping, checking proportions, heights and thicknesses prior to production in 18-carat yellow gold. The manufacturing process involved lost-wax casting, assembly and manual shaping of the precious metal, followed by polishing and quality control. Comparing the prototypes made it possible to evaluate the presence on the body and the relationship between the different parts before completing the work.

Certifications and registrations

Technical expertise, professional registrations and qualifications have accompanied the development of my work in the goldsmithing and jewellery field.

Awards and recognition

Since 2009, I have guided private clients and couples through the creation of their jewellery in my atelier. Over thirty years of goldsmithing experience guide every stage: listening, design, workshop, quality control, and delivery. Awards, mentions, and accolades tell the story of the artisanal, technical, and creative journey that underpins my work. Each badge links to an in-depth article on the blog.

How is a piece of jewellery born?

A piece of jewellery can be inspired by a specific request or by a story worth cherishing. It is Custom when it starts with a shape, a stone, a material or a style to be crafted to measure. It becomes narrative When transforming a memory, symbol or personal passage into substance, proportion and meaning. Wedding rings, rings, pendants, necklaces and bracelets can follow both paths. In the Jewellery section, you can discover which one best suits your idea.
