Piatte belongs to my archive of created works and documents a journey built around a specific couple. Each new project is redesigned around the hands, proportions, chosen material, daily use and the meaning you wish to give it. The archive serves to show my method and open up a new line of research, not to fix a shape that is the same for everyone.
The inspiration stems from the couple's desire to find in their wedding rings an authentic character that is handcrafted and tied to tradition, yet expressed through a sharper line. Discussions began remotely via video call and made it possible to progressively define the shape and proportions. In my Altamura atelier, trying on the prototypes turned those choices into a concrete size, agreed upon before final production.
For Piatte, I worked in 18-carat rose gold using a traditional handcrafted technique. The couple were able to try on the prototypes and evaluate heights, thicknesses and proportions with me before the final production. They also followed the construction steps through the experience Goldsmiths for a Day experience, moving directly towards the gestures and checks that make the quality of a handcrafted item legible.
