Flat Fingerprints belongs to my archive of created works and documents a solution developed around a specific couple. Each new project is redesigned considering people, hand proportions, material, daily use and meaning. A fingerprint may suggest a direction, but its position, the structure of the band and the relationship between surfaces must be studied afresh for the wearer of the wedding rings.
The project started from some wedding bands in my gallery, chosen by the couple as a reference to define the structure and character. The customisation became more intimate when we decided to transfer their original fingerprints onto the metal. The concept is that of the artist understood not as the one who makes the rings, but as the couple themselves: two people who leave their mark while shaping a new family unit and a shared life project.
For these wedding rings I worked in 18-carat rose gold through 3D modelling, prototyping, lost-wax casting, polishing and quality control. The original fingerprints were integrated into the creation and transferred onto the metal surface. The prototypes made it possible to check sizes, heights, thicknesses and proportions together; the preliminary phase was followed remotely and the journey then concluded in my studio in Altamura.
Every review reflects a real commission: the initial consultation, the listening process, the definition of the project, the anticipation and the moment the finished piece becomes part of the client’s life.
