The story behind Hold Back the Time stems from a precise desire: to capture an image of family intimacy without turning it into a simple portrait. The ring holds two daughters in the suspended time of an embrace and already carries within it a future destination: to be separated in two when they are adults. The guiding phrase is essential and powerful: “Remember that the other half exists, even when time puts you to the test.”.
Fermate il tempo belongs to the archive of completed creations and was not conceived as a form to be repeated identically. It can inspire a new project, but each narrative ring is redesigned from scratch: person, memory, proportions, materials, intended use and meaning must find their own coherence. In my atelier in Altamura, I personally follow this journey, because the narrative must remain authentic and built upon the story of the person entrusting it to me.
The inspiration comes from a family request for a wedding anniversary. Following a written invitation and a meeting in my workshop in Altamura, the choice fell upon a narrative piece of jewellery. The starting point was indicated by the mother: a photograph of her daughters embracing while sleeping. From that image, the formal exploration began, ultimately transforming a private moment into a structure to be worn on the hand.
I worked 18-carat yellow gold using 3D modelling, prototyping and lost-wax casting, so as to check proportions, heights and thicknesses prior to final production. The surfaces were treated in different ways: some sandblasted, others mirror-polished, and others hand-engraved. This contrast allows the light to distinguish faces, hair, traces and narrative passages.
Every review reflects a real commission: the initial consultation, the listening process, the definition of the project, the anticipation and the moment the finished piece becomes part of the client’s life.
