First, a place to call home is imagined. Then unexpected news arrives that changes the perspective and opens up space for a new life. Nido is born at the point where these steps meet the promise of engagement. The low poly geometry echoes a creative language familiar to the bride-to-be and builds, tier by tier, a form that cradles the moonstone at its centre: in two nested baskets, yet a synthesis of family, home, anticipation and bond.
Nido belongs to my archive of created works and documents how a story can guide form, material and technical testing. A new project does not start from its geometry to repeat it, but from the person who will wear it: meanings, hand proportions, materials, intended use and formal language are studied afresh.
The project was born at a time when multiple meanings meet: the search for the desired home, the unexpected news of a pregnancy and the decision to make the promise official. To these elements is added a very personal reference: the low poly language used by the bride-to-be in her 3D paper sculptures. I transformed this geometric vocabulary into the idea of a nest, a place that welcomes and takes shape around a new family.
For this commission I worked with 18-carat rose gold and moonstone, developing the structure through 3D modelling and prototyping prior to lost-wax casting. The prototype allowed the client to try the ring on and tangibly assess heights, thicknesses and proportions. I then oversaw the polishing, surface treatment and quality control, maintaining a clear contrast between the faceted geometries and the visual softness of the central stone.
Every review reflects a real commission: the initial consultation, the listening process, the definition of the project, the anticipation and the moment the finished piece becomes part of the client’s life.
