When in my goldsmith's workshop I receive a couple asking me to make bespoke wedding rings, for me a challenge always opens up.
It isn't just a matter of creating two rings that are beautiful, well-proportioned and comfortable to wear. It is about listening to a love story, capturing a significant episode, respecting the couple's aesthetic tastes and transforming all of this into a symbol destined to last.

Veronica and Giuseppe’s personalised rings: how it all began
One day Veronica contacted me. She was thrilled because on Instagram she had seen some fingerprint wedding rings made in my workshop.
She liked them so much that she asked me if it would be possible to make them with her fingerprints and those of the groom-to-be, Giuseppe.
Each of my creations stems from a concept capable of encapsulating a story. In this case, the meaning was particularly intense.
We are a deaf couple and you can imagine how important hands are to us.
This sentence, written by Veronica, opened a vortex of emotions within me.
I understood immediately that those wedding rings would not merely have an aesthetic or artisanal value. They would safeguard a profound meaning: hands as language, contact, presence, identity and promise.
Fingerprint wedding rings: hands, language and love
For Veronica and Giuseppe, hands were not a detail.
They were a living part of their relationship and their way of communicating. Hands were speech, presence, gesture, listening, closeness.
Making wedding rings with fingerprints for a couple who live out the value of signing and manual communication every day meant working on a deeply powerful symbol.
I wasn't simply creating two custom rings. I was taking part in the birth of an object capable of capturing a part of their identity.
In the following days we spoke on a video call. Then I finally had the pleasure of meeting them in my workshop in Altamura, where they left their footprints.
They were excited, happy, and eager to see those small yet great works born from their history completed.
A story beyond words
The story of Veronica and Giuseppe says a lot about their love: the distance, the waiting, a difficult first impression, the desire to truly get to know each other and the value of a communication made also of hands, glances and presence.

Shortly afterwards, it was Giuseppe who contacted me. He had an idea in mind: he wanted to give Veronica a personalised ring, capable of making her heart beat fast and of telling her how great his love was.
She wanted a substantial diamond ring, one of those that in the imagination make you think of a film-like proposal. But this alone was not enough.
You know my method by now: a piece of jewellery must tell a story.
So I asked Giuseppe which story, image or memory we should start from.
He didn't keep me waiting. Within a few hours he sent me a detailed, sweet and passionate email. From that story, the creative journey for a piece of jewellery truly designed for Veronica was born.
Veronica and Giuseppe: the meeting
Giuseppe began his story from Caserta, the city where he met Veronica for the first time.
It was Caserta where I met Veronica. It was 2011. I must confess that it didn't go very well. She was intimidated by my face, which she considered arrogant. In short, to put it briefly, she took a bit of a dislike to me.
Fortunately, a few days later, a new contact arrived via Facebook.
Many days passed. On Facebook, Veronica saw a photo in which I had been tagged by a mutual connection. She had the great idea of sending me a friend request, which I accepted immediately.
From then on began days of endless chatting. We messaged every day and she realised that I wasn't all that unpleasant.
After so many days and nights spent writing to each other, they decided the time had come to see each other again.
She lived in Verona. I bought a flight for the first week of April, but as luck would have it, just at that time the deaf association was organising a Carnival party in Modena.
I thought it would be wonderful to surprise her and join her, unbeknownst to her, on that occasion, thereby bringing forward the timing of our second meeting.
From Verona to the love nest
Giuseppe's story then continued in Verona, the city of Juliet, on a very important date.
In Verona I asked her if she wanted to become the woman of my life. Veronica answered yes on 6 April 2012.
At a certain point, however, we were very sad, because we were going to have to say goodbye. She was going back to Trentino, and I to Bari.
But why stop, when every time we saw each other we felt so good? We decided to meet up one week a month. After years, she chose to move to Bari to stay close to me. There we built our love nest.
Their story was made of distance and returns, of waitings and decisions, of different cities and a love that each time sought a way to stay close.
It was a story perfect for becoming a jewel.
How Narrative Jewellery Comes to Life
In my work a Personalised Jewellery it is never born from a simple decoration.
It is born from a story, from a listening experience, from an inner image that slowly takes shape.
The client takes part in the creative process, because the piece of jewellery must hold something that truly belongs to them. In Giuseppe's case, the story itself became design material.
I replied to him like this:
I already have a few ideas in mind. To enter the courtyard of Juliet Capulet’s house, there is an archway covered in graffiti left by lovers from all over the world. I would love to decorate the shank of the ring with words or phrases taken from your story, as if they were written on those walls.
The kiss of love, symbol of your meeting in Verona, could become the setting for the diamond. The hearts and arrows can represent the emotions that still bind you today and are kept within the stone. Finally, inside, we will engrave the most important date: 6 April 2012.
The idea appealed greatly to Giuseppe, who decided to present that ring at an equally special moment: on their wedding day, during the cutting of the cake.
Unique wedding rings as a gift of love
Verona, the date of the "I do", the first kiss, the words ideally left on the walls of lovers: everything emerged from the story to be transformed into a piece of jewellery.
A ring can become much more than a gift. It can hold the memory of a place, the meaning of a choice, the strength of an encounter and the promise of a shared future.
In the case of Giuseppe and Veronica, the wedding rings and the engagement ring were not simply chosen.
They were born from their history.
