Lost-wax casting course

In person at the atelier · Maximum 3 participants
Beginners and students with experience

Lost-wax casting is one of the fundamental techniques used in jewellery production. It allows you to transform a wax model into a metallic object, while preserving its shapes, volumes, and details.

In my goldsmith's workshop, lost-wax casting is part of the daily jewellery-making process. During the course, I will guide you through the different production phases, from evaluating wax models to analysing the castings obtained.

Through demonstrations, observation, and guided exercises, you learn to recognize how preparation, technical choices, and control of the processes influence the quality of the final result.

All the stages of the processing take place internally in my studio, allowing you to understand the relationship between preparation, the production process and the quality of the result.

Course program

The program allows the student to learn about the main stages of the lost-wax casting process, with particular attention paid to the relationship between the initial model and the result obtained.

The training activities include:

  • Understanding the lost-wax casting process used in jewellery-making.

  • Assessing and preparing wax models for casting.

  • Arranging wax models on the casting tree.

  • Understanding the preparation of investment casting flasks.

  • Study of the equipment used in the process.

  • Observing and carrying out casting stages under supervision, in accordance with safety requirements.

  • Recovering the castings and assessing the results.

  • Identifying the main casting defects.

  • Inspecting surfaces and assessing the subsequent goldsmithing work.

The program is adapted to the student’s level, while maintaining an overall view of the process.

For beginners, the course gradually introduces the materials, tools, and main production stages.

For those with previous experience, the exercises can focus on work organization, controlling results, and analyzing defects.

How the lessons are conducted

The training takes place entirely in my studio, where each phase is presented in relation to the previous and subsequent ones. The lessons alternate between explanations, practical demonstrations, observation of the work processes, and guided exercises. Operations that require special precautions are handled under the responsibility and supervision of the teacher.

During the course, we learn to observe the characteristics of the initial model, understand the choices that influence the result, and recognize the aspects that require more attention. An important moment of the training involves comparing the model in wax with the metal object obtained, to identify any differences, defects, and opportunities for improvement.

Classes are limited to three participants, allowing individual guidance throughout the course.

Intensive schedule

Intensive attendance focuses the training on days typically of eight hours of class, with a separate lunch break. The schedule is organized according to the planned activities, adapting the duration of the final meeting when necessary to complete the 150 hours.

Standard schedule

The standard frequency typically involves two weekly sessions of four hours each. The schedule is agreed upon before enrollment, with the possibility of adapting the duration of the final session to reach a total of 150 hours.

Duration and fees

The course includes a total of 150 hours of training, with standard or intensive attendance. The fee is available upon request and communicated through a personalized proposal before enrollment. The proposal includes the training program, the calendar, and the list of necessary materials.

Both modes are available for beginners and experienced participants. The materials for the exercises and any personal tools are counted separately.

Materials and equipment

The fee includes the lessons and the use of the studio workstations and equipment provided in the program. All the teaching phases of the microfusion process take place internally, using the professional equipment provided for the course.

Waxes, metals and other materials required for the exercises are at the student's expense. Before registration, you will receive a list of materials, the associated costs and information on how the activities will be carried out.

Frequently asked questions about the lost wax microfusion course

Yes. The course can be organized for those who want to learn about microfusion starting from the basics. The activities are introduced gradually, taking into account the initial experience and the safety conditions of the laboratory.

Yes. All the phases planned in the program are carried out internally in my jewelry workshop, from the preparation of the models to the evaluation of the results.

Active participation in individual operations depends on the student’s skills and safety conditions. Activities that require special precautions remain under the responsibility and supervision of the teacher.

It is not essential to have advanced training. However, it is important to understand the characteristics of the models intended for casting.

To deepen your understanding of model making, you can also attend the Hand wax modelling course.

No. The fee covers the lessons and the use of the workshop equipment provided in the program. The materials for the exercises are counted separately and communicated before registration.

The difference relates to the organization of the lessons. The standard frequency is two weekly sessions of four hours, while the intensive course focuses on training over eight hours per day. Both offer a total of 150 hours.
